Funky Friday: Modern Living Rooms

Sometimes I'm in the mood for modern, funky decor.  It can be hard to pull off, but it's always interesting to look and see how other people do.

From: www.architecture-view.com, this Swedish apartment has a warm modern feel.  Cheerful punches of color pop inside a white envelope with lovely, warm wood floors.  And how about that light fixture!  I love how it drops down so low.

From: www.architecture-view.com, this all white apartment has a different feel than the one above but they both have the same white shell. With less variations in color and a simpler architectural design, it's a bit cooler.

From: www.architecture-view.com, this stunning apartment is inside an old mansion in Ghent, Belgium. Can you imagine?  While the basic colors of the home are black and white, the gorgeous furnishings and art add so much interest and warmth to the simple underlying color palette.   The vintage area rug is exquisite.

Love that map on the wall in this San Francisco home.  Another fabulous rug!

From: www.architecture-view.com, this 600sf East Village apartment explodes with those amazing walls of brick.  They are the perfect backdrop for a black and white scheme. Fabulous, but can you imagine keeping those shiny black floors clean?
The floor pattern is stunning and so are the stairs!  Look at those perfectly punched pillows!

Great use of orange and blue and use of space.
What a blend of color, texture, vintage and new
There's a lot going on here, but somehow it works.  An artist must live here!
It's amazing how the scale of this San Francisco loft doesn't overpower the space.  I love the warm-wood beams.

Beautiful staircase
It's great to see a tall evergreen right outside the window before the city scape.  Do you think they can light it up at Christmas?

Happy Friday!!

  1. Hi Jenna,

I'm doing all kinds of blog hopping tonight and immediately recognized your living room from This Old House. Anyway, it's always fun to find other design-obsessed bloggers in the Bay Area (I'm in Oakland), so I thought I'd say hello.

Your living room and kitchen are fabulous!

  2. Thanks, Camille. Loved your post on composing a vignette. I learned a lot about the challenges of taking the "perfect shot" when James Carriere photographed our home. Check out his web site for photo inspiration: www.jamescarriere.com. He was at my house for 9 hours(!!!!) last week with his $80,000 camera trying to get a cover shot. I'm not sure they even got it. Capturing that perfect shot is definitely a work in progress, even for the pros!
